Gov. Tim Walz has asked the EPA to exercise its emergency authority to waive its summertime RVP resistrictions on E15 in light of high prices at the pump due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The volume of E15 sold in January this year totaled 7.39 million gallons, continuing the strong sales momentum from 2021, according to the latest data from the Minnesota Department of Commerce.

E15 sales in Minnesota grew 16.5 percent to 86.65 million gallons in 2021 - a new record - from 74.39 million gallons in 2020, according to the latest data from the Minnesota Department of Commerce.

Ethanol comprised 12.67 percent of all transportation fuel consumed in Minnesota in 2020, according to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA).

The volume of E15 sold in Minnesota from January to November last year was 78.94 million gallons, according to the latest data from the Minnesota Department of Commerce. That exceeds the previous record of 78.52 million gallons that was sold for the whole of 2019. 

The EPA today finally issued its proposed renewable volume obligation (RVO) targets for 2020, 2021 and 2022. It also separately issued a proposal to deny more than 60 pending small refinery exemption (SRE) petitions.
