In a statement Sept 23, Gevo said the production increase represents seven to ten times its current production levels. Besides isobutanol, Gevo will continue to produce ethanol at its Luverne facility.

Gevo said it will invest $5 million over the next three to six months to decrease its production costs by, among others, installing equipment such as a distiliation system to purify isobutanol at the planta and an addition to the company's seed train that will enable Gevo to produce yeast on site. It will also install a stainless steel fermenter replace its existing carbon steel fermenters.

The lower production costs will result in a decrease in the variable production cost of isobutanol at Gevo's plant to a range of $3 - $3.50 gallon, which represents a 50 percent decrease from the company's current production costs.

With lower production costs, Gevo said it will ramp up production in 2016 and increase the sale of its isobutanol to the marina, off-road and solvents markets. With a higher volume, Gevo will be able to continue produce jet fuel at its hydrocarbons biorefinery in Texas for testing purposes with commercial airlines.
