During Rep. Tim Walz's visit to Guardian Energy last Friday, the Congressman got to meet several employees at the plant including Janesville resident, Trista Rogers, who once was Walz's student at Mankato West High School.

Rogers is one of 43 employees at the Guardian Energy plant in Janesville. Prior to his political career, Walz was a history teacher at Mankato West High School.

Walz pointed out that ethanol plants like Guardian Energy offers "good, middle class" jobs in rural towns in Minnesota. Without the ethanol industry, such employment opportunities would not exist in rural Minnesota.

Indeed, such opportunities may not exisit in other rural parts of the country if it wasn't for the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).

In 2014, the RFS supported 379,215 jobs nationwide. In Minnesota alone, it supported 18,630 jobs.
