Will The EPA Side With Big Oil?

On June 1, the EPA will finally release its proposed RFS targets for 2014, 2015 and 2016. The big question now is, will the EPA side with the oil industry or will it side with an industry that produces clean renewable energy, supports jobs in rural America and reduces our dependence on foreign oil?

A report from Reuters suggests the EPA may be sticking to the flawed "blend wall" theory purported by Big Oil when it announces the numbers next week.

The report notes that the EPA will use last year's actual ethanol consumption figures for 2014's RFS while "the industry is blending at a slightly faster pace so far this year" suggesting the targets for 2015 may be set at a level slightly higher than last year. The big question, the report added, is the level the agency will set for 2016.

It has to be noted that the EPA will only propose its targets on June 1 and that the actual numbers will be finalised by Nov 30.
